YUKON OMBUDSMAN & INFORMATION AND PRIVACY COMMISSIONER

The Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act

The Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (ATIPP Act) gives the public a right of access to information held by the Yukon Government and other “public bodies” as defined by the ATIPP Act. Much of this information is available by way of routine disclosure. Other information can be requested through an access request to the ATIPP Office. Here’s how you can access information in the Yukon:

  • Contact the department or agency to ask if the information is available through routine disclosure.
  • Contact the Yukon Government’s ATIPP Office at 867-393-7048 or at the listed website to make a formal request for the information.
  • Contact the Information and Privacy Commissioner if you are not satisfied with the response.

What can the Information and Privacy Commissioner do for you?

The Information and Privacy Commissioner has the power to oversee the way the ATIPP Act is applied and can take complaints about its administration. The Commissioner also has the power to review decisions made under the ATIPP Act and can serve as an avenue of appeal if you think that a decision made under the ATIPP Act was incorrect or unfair.

The services of the Information and Privacy Commissioner are free of charge and confidential.
